Ramblings of Random | Fort Worth Child Photographer

Things have been quiet around this blog. The last few months have been full of boudoir work for Noire Belle, but over here we seem to have taken a small breather during the winter months. I'm so excited for this spring, though, as we have a lot of new things planned and sessions scheduled.

The little dude and I have been having a rough time as he steps into his 'terrible twos' and I watch my sweet, complacent little boy get replaced with this impulsive and investigative kid. There are weeks I'm so tired from redirecting and entertaining that I've not even brought the camera out to play with him. I finally broke the mold the other day and spent a few minutes, camera in hand, just letting him be him. Trucks and all.

Wearing his favorite shirt from Janie and Jack, he asks to wear this shirt daily. I am so going to need to save it for his baby clothing quilt.

Speaking of Janie and Jack, have you see this shirt? I'm so tempted to buy it as the little dude is moving into a bike and wheel phase at the moment.

Just My Kid | Fort Worth Child Photographer

It's been awhile since I've posted an update on my kid. :)

He's been growing like a weed, of course, and been a great model to use at some new location ideas I have for 2009. The following images are from one of them.

If you'd like to be a test subject for me on this location let me know. I'm going to be taking a few families around to try it out before I suggest it for a regular session.

It might be the middle of winter but things are only getting hotter around here. From the amazing onslaught of spring and summer sessions which are coming this way, the new products we're testing, and the restructuring of our collections and product pricing, things are aimed to keep everyone on their toes.

One of the coolest new additions is the way we will be posting out sneak peeks for high school seniors. I know you want the full Hollywood treatment from start to finsh, and as such your images will be displayed in a fully unique way to show off the amazing session you had.

Things are heating up over here even if it is nearly freezing outside. I've been going through last years sessions and seeing all the Senior sessions got me thinking that it's about that time to locate my Model Reps for this next year.

We've been experiencing snow, airplanes, and the first Christmas where the toddler really gets the idea of opening presents. Holidays are almost over with. It’s always a bittersweet feeling. I love the crisp winter air and the lights dancing around everywhere. It’s a magical time, my favorite time of the year. And it’s always after a break that I start to think of crazy ideas and want to do some sessions just for me.
So I announce the first, annual, Spring ‘Fresh Faces’ Casting Call. This casting call is a list of subjects I want to spend a couple hours with working on some ideas I’ve cooked up. If you, or someone you know, is on this list please contact me to reserve a session date for the spring. Each Fresh Face session comes with a $300 print credit as a thank you for putting up with my ideas. :-D

This weekend I had my brother practice his budding photography skills at a new location in Fort Worth that I stumbled on. I was rather pleased with the results and thought I would share them and let everyone know that my plans for the next weekend have changed so I have an opening on Saturday the 6th. Good Family Fun | Dallas Family Photographer

I hope everyone had a good and filling Thanksgiving yesterday. :) We enjoyed lots of good food and pies and family and friends. It reminds me why I love the Holiday season. All the dinners and people sitting around the table with clean plates talking about whatever the conversation flows to.

Instead of braving the mobs in the stores, M and I decided to take the kids out for a day in Dallas at the Dallas World Aquarium and see what trouble we could come up with. We ended up having a fantastic day with the three munchkins (three under three for those of you not in the know) and I pulled out a couple of my favorite images from the day.

Even photographers like to just take a couple snaps for the family album once in awhile.

Skimping Smart on Photography

From one bargain shopper to another, I know there are many of us out there who love a good deal. Who can't quite hit "Buy Now" without knowing we've used all resources available to us to make sure we're getting our purchase at the cheapest price known to Google. At the same time, there are still those few items where we simply refuse to compromise quality in our quest to save a little extra money. Photography is (or should) be one of those areas.

There are, however, a few loopholes in ways for you to get the quality portraits you desire even on a budget this holiday season. I'm going to be posting some pointers on ways you can safely save a little on your portraits without compromising quality.

The first tip is to reevaluate your framing. While it's no secret that a good frame can really accent a portrait and properly display your image in a high class and artful way, at the same time it is better to invest in the image now and save the expensive frame for later if buying both at once is too expensive for your budget.

ApartmentTherapy.com had a great article about finding cheap framing options.

They not only listed some of their finds but also opened up the comments for readers to share their low cost frame finds as well.

It might seem odd to pay so much to have your portraits and then have them in a non-custom boutique frame, but at least you have them on your wall in the first place and you can easily switch them into a new frame in a few months. Also, don't be afraid to check out the article on finding inexpensive framing stores near you.

Something Fun

Using my camera so often for work means sometimes I forget to take it out and just play around with it, take pictures of something for fun, and not feel like I have to do anything with them.

Recently I've been trying to spend more time doing something fun with my camera. Taking random pictures for no reason other than I just think it looks cool.

I thought I would share the results with my readers here, and if you want, take the picture and use it as a desktop or screen saver. :) I just want to show off a little something different. So enjoy the randomness and if anything strikes your fancy, use it for your desktop!

This past summer I had the pleasure of doing Ashleigh & Wes' wedding photography. We had such a blast on their wedding day that I left an open invitation to them to meet up again this fall for some fun fearless bridals and since we never did an engagement session, they wanted a few of the two of them together in more relaxed clothing to share with their family and friends.

This couple is so hot and I felt like I should be in the middle of a steamy body wash commercial or something. The chemistry between these two is electrifying. It was such a pleasure to take them to a new favorite location of mine and really explore how many different backgrounds we could get from just one spot.

Double Dipping | Fort Worth Infant Photography

What is it about babies that just makes us go crazy? Every time I'm around one I can't help but get lost in their amazing scrunchie-ness and fall in love with each and every one of them. I could never get bored with photographing newborns. They're so small and amazing. Little miracles.

I met with a wonderful family this weekend to meet their new daughter and this baby was no exception to the rule. She was so perfect in every way, and once we finally gave into keeping her on her tummy, she slept almost the entire time I was there.

This isn't really a sneak peek as I've already finished the proofs and sent the parents the gallery, but I couldn't resisit posting a few of my favorites for my followers and just to show off the sweet baby goodness. There is something so wonderful about a newborn that melts your heart and makes you smile.

I just love this yawn. And the feet. Oh baby feet make me giddy. I think the next baby I have will have a whole album devoted to his/her baby feet.

My son turned two mid September and not counting his birthday celebration, I've been too busy to take any pictures of him since the special day. Now nearly a month later, as we were celebrating my mom's birthday, we got caught in a fall rain storm heading home and everything around us was quickly drenched.

I took my son out of the car and tried to hurry him inside to avoid getting wet, but being the boy that he is he took to stomping in the puddles in the parking lot. And me being the mom that I am, decided to let him enjoy a few moments of toddlerhood pleasure by playing in the puddles and splashing around.

He enjoyed every minute of it.

I love weddings.

I love the smiles, and the laughs. I love the chaos and the last minute changes and the oopses.

I love the stories. The story of how a couple met, how they fell in love, and how their wedding day will be remembered.

One of my favorite parts of the day is when the bride is getting ready. I love it when she pulls out all the details of the day and gets laced up in her dress.

When the bride first walks down the asile you can't help but notice how radiant she looks.

I, however, love to turn and look back at the groom and see his expression. That whole drunk on love look is priceless.

Sometimes it's the moments between the moments that are the most precious.

And this just goes to show you, it doesnt matter what day it is, the baby will always be the center of attention. ;-)

People always think I'm crazy when I tell them how to pose. But I love how once I get them in the general spot they just naturally take over and do their own thing.

I couldn't help myself, I loved this one.

The cake cutting went perfectly, right before they walked over I heard her whisper "Please don't smash cake in my face." He listened.

What would a wedding day be without a few simple pictures of the bride and groom together. Alone.

And then a few more of the bride on her own. Especially when she has some killer shoes on.

By the way, I fell in love with her dress! It had a flair of vintage and just the right amount of trimmings to make it feminine without going overboard.

The Happy Couple | Dallas Wedding Photography

After a crazy run around of phone calls and vacations, I finally met up with these two love birds for their engagement session before their wedding this weekend. It was so wonderful to put a face to names and get to know them better.

I wanted to whip out this sneak tonight knowing they'd be anxious and might not have time later on to see the pictures before their wedding. As such, it's 2 AM and I'm beat so we're calling this a short post at the moment.

Helping after Hurricane Ike | Fort Worth Family Photography

Being right next to Dallas I was very aware of Ike's path and the strength of the storm. I read about so many other photographer friends in the area who had to flee and thought about the countless others who also were forced to leave their homes and their posessions behind and hope they had something to return to.

I was told about a project another photographer was starting up which I thought sounded really, really interesting. The more I thought about it, the more I knew I wanted to get involved somehow in helping the people who were affected by Ike. But, like most of you, I don't have money sitting around waiting for me to stumble upon someone who needs it.

This other photographer, however, is helping to give back some of the memories which families may have lost in the storm. She is donating sessions to victims of Hurricane Ike as they try to rebuild their lives and have a real reason to celebrate life and cherish the moments they are together.

So I decided to get a little creative and come up with a plan. From now until November 30th, you may purchase a Charity Mini session for $350. The session will be for 1 hour, come with one complimentary 8x10 and 25 of your session proofs on a CD for easy printing.

Plus, $50 from your session will be donated to the RedCross to help aid in their efforts to help in the aftermath of Ike.

Also, for each of these special mini sessions purchased, you will create an opening for a session for a family who was a victim of hurricane Ike. This family will recieve a full 3 hour session with a 4x6 album of their proofs, a CD with the images, and a complimentary 11x14 to display in their new home. The session will be completed by myself or another photographer closer to a family in need.

Michigan Family Photography | Because I can't skip a sneak peek.

Someone told me tonight the blog is dead.

I thought I heard crickets. Thing is, I've been trying to take a "vacation" of sorts for a few weeks while visiting my family in Michigan. It's been a fabulous time so far and I've been so blessed to be able to finally get ten gazillion pictures of my son just as he's about to turn two. Sometimes when things get busy for me I stop taking pictures of him because I'm so tired of being behind the camera. Or I do take the pictures, and then they sit on my computer and never get printed because I forget I have them.

But tonight I had to revive this old blog for a minute and share a special session with everyone. I met up with my dearest friend Corrine and was introduced to a very special man in her life. We spent a couple hours together at a park trying to beat the rain and when we were finally finished I had to hold my camera under my shirt because the raindrops were so fat that I was afraid they'd hurt it. What can I say, I'm a little over protective of my camera.

And so, at midnight, I thought I would share a small handful of the images from the day to help put everyone's mind at ease about how it went.

To start I'll just say that the kids were a little excited. ;-)

Look Dad, I told you not to worry about her making silly faces. I'm still faster. ;-)

We were leaving the park and the rain stopped and I called Corrine from the car and told her to stop on this dirt road real quick. I almost didnt call her because I didnt want to push my luck with the kids, but I'm so glad I did.

Sneak Peek | Fort Worth Family Photographer

I am blessed to have found a very dear friend who has a daughter the same age as my son. They are actually only a month apart in their births and this has lead to us having some wonderful playdates and conversations comparing the latest sleep trends and sharing parenting tricks and ideas. When I was asked if I would take some pictures for L's 2nd birthday I was honored and quickly scheduled a session before my vacation because I was so excited to try out a new location.

The day of the session we were met with huge storm clouds and buckets of rain, but we decided not to cancel just yet, and our faith paid off as just about the time we were originally planning to do the session the skies opened up and out came the sun in all it's golden glory.

I had the wonderful experience of meeting a fabulous young woman this past weekend. We spent four hours together braving the summer heat and talking about whistling and snapping fingers, and, oh yeah, also took her senior portraits. We had so many amazing images I just couldn't limit myself and had to post an extra long sneak peek tonight.

Of these two, I can't decide which I like better. Thoughts?

And of course, we made our way downtown for some fabulous night photography. It was a perfect evening for it and while I have just gobs of pictures to look through, I thought I would post two of them here quickly.

Summer Swimming | Fort Worth Child Photographer

During the Summer my son and I spend countless hours in the pool together. He will be turning two in another month and I'm amazed at how fearless he is in the pool and how much he enjoys being in the water. I was inspired by a good friend of mine to take some under water photographs of him, so off to the store we went, purchased the cheapest disposable underwater camera we could find for a whopping $8 and then spent an afternoon trying to time the jumping into the pool & m lung capacity to get the perfect shots.

Let me tell you this disposable camera stuff is really, really hard to work with. But I'm so glad we did it, and I'm so excited to have these pictures to put into his album. I know as he grows he will enjoy being able to see them just as much as I love looking at them now.

Snappity Snap : Fort Worth Baby Photographer

I've read before that it's hard for an artist to play Pictionary. They say that the remedial stick drawings people use in order to win the game are so different from the skills that artists have spent years trying to learn and perfect that it's just impossible for them to draw something without the details which suck up their time during the game. I never fully understood the concept of this until the last year.

Since I've opened my doors professionally for photography I've used my son as a primary model for new locations, equipment, and insane ideas before presenting them to a client. He has so many digital images of himself tucked away on my hard drive just waiting for me to have a spare minute (ha!) to go through and pick out the ones I want to print. But really it's sad how he is lacking the traditional snap-shots of childhood that fill so many of my baby albums.

I'm on a mission these days to bring the camera with me more often and not be so focused on the technical aspects of the photography, but to just enjoy the moment and feel free to take a snap-shot once in awhile.

So today, while at the mall, I took some snap shots of him playing with his friend Lea. I did some very light editing to them, and I'm sharing them here with my readers.

You know those sessions where you walk away thinking "I cannot wait to see how many awesome images I got!"

I had one of those on Friday. It was a lucky break all around that I was able to schedule this session but I'm so glad it worked out and I'm drooling over the thought of the newborn images come this September. I don't even know if I can properly describe how much I enjoyed myself during this session and getting to meet the three doggies and one bird. ;-) Did I mention I'm an animal lover? Bring on the slobber and the furballs!

Here's a little sneak peek so you can all see why I'm so excited.

They had the most amazing furniture I've seen. I've been drooling since I left.

And this crib. It's gorgeous. They even have the room all decorated and ready.

I finally found someone willing to use my tie! I just loved how this one turned out.

And, I must admit, this is one of my all time favorite maternity images I've ever taken.

And, of course, we couldn't leave out her first baby.

N & T thank you so much for welcoming me into your home for this session. You guys have great style and I can't wait to come back to meet your little one.

There's always a reason why I seem to suddenly disappear. This week it was because of a death of a family friend. I was working on a photo slideshow for the funeral and a little out of reach for awhile, I'm sorry about that. Please expect to be receiving a return email or phone call from me early this next week.

Sneak Peek

I spent the day with a dear old friend of many many years whom I see far too little of. It was so nice to spend time catching up and then taking a couple pictures of her wee one who is now already 3 months old (actually nearly 4 months I think) amazing. They grow up so quickly!

We weren't able to get quite as many outfits in before he was in need of a nap, but I told her I knew we manage to sneak in at least a couple keepers. Sharing a few with all of you. Enjoy!

And I had to post this last one just to show off these crib sheets. Aren't they just amazing? I was drooling over them the whole time I was there. Just love!

Boudoir Photography Update

I've been working like a mad woman around here trying to get a bunch of behind the scenes stuff going. Thankfully one thing I can finally cross off my list (almost) is my Boudoir website.

Fort Worth Boudoir Photogtaphy

After a good while of thinking, I decided that it would be best to showcase my boudoir photography on its own website so I didn't have to worry about someone viewing my blog while at work and seeing a photo which is not safe for work, or not appropriate for their children to see at home. I hope this will help keep everyone happy, but having two blogs to update will drive me nuts after awhile. My plan is to just post occasional sessions on the Boudoir Blog and keep this one as my main photography blog. Sounds fair?

Go check out the website, tell me if you notice anything needing to be changed or fixed. I have a few things left to tweak before it's officially done, but it was close enough to update for now. ;-)

Senior Portrait

This sneak is really late and I apologize for that! Between taking a Maymester right after finals and summer starting I've been slammed and hardly had time for anything. I'm so glad I was able to finally meet up with C and get her senior portraits done. We did a combo session starting in the Botanical gardens first and then moving on to the City after a break for come caffeine in between. It was a wonderful night and I'm stoked to get these images to her once they're done.

I've been kinda obsessed with this website, 43 things, for awhile now. I have a constantly full list of things I want to be actively working towards accomplishing and trying to complete, but one of the items on my list I felt was worth sharing with my readers here. ;-)

The list item is to find 100 things in life that make you happy ( besides money ). Now I'm not sure if that means you should put material items on the list or not, but I thought it's a great thing to do, to know what makes you happy and brings a smile to your eyes.

Fort Worth Boudoir Weekend

After a lot of hemming and hawing I decided that my Boudoir work really needed to have a place of it's own. I love to share it with my readers, but I worry about how some of the pictures may not be safe to be viewed in a family environment and I would hate to offend someone by having them online along with my child portfolio, etc.

So I came up with the idea to create a website just for my boudoir work, which is really exciting because I can create a logo and color scheme just for the boudoir. Woot.

From now on, I will post the full session share on the other blog, but will make an update on this blog with a link to let everyone know I've posted there. So you still will only need to keep up with just one blog. :-D

There are a few kinks in the new blog which needs to be worked out, but for the most part I'm really excited about this. I think it will be an awesome adventure.

WANTED - Summer Intern

Sarah Anne Photography is looking to bring on an intern for the 2008 Summer months!

Interns will not be paid in cash, but the knowledge gained will priceless! This is a perfect opportunity for someone who's always loved photography or thinking about majoring in photography. And the coolest part, you WILL get to shoot on occasion. Woot!

Some of your responsibilities will include -

Help track inquiries and send out info packets.
Package print orders and drop off at UPS.
Run basic proofing edits on photos.
Assist on photoshoots.
Help brainstorm ideas for marketing and promotions.
And others depending on skill and comfort level.

Interns should have an understanding of how to work a SLR style camera (owning your own is preferred but not required) and must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop and comfortable working on the computer. Also need to have access to reliable transportation.

Please Note - You WILL be required to sign a non-compete agreement for 3 years following your internship. This means you legally cannot start a photography business in the DFW area for at least three years once your internship.

An Act of Love...

I was recently approved by OpLove ( OpLove.org ) to be a volunteer photographer for their program. The cliff notes version is that OpLove provides photography services to service men (women) as a thank you for their sacrifices to our country. (For more information check out the website.)

I meet with J and B after an hour of trying to find each other (seriously, how many BBQ places can you have in one city with the same name on "Main" street?) But we prevailed and finally met up for the session.

In an odd twist of fate, J contacted me about this session just three days after my application had been approved. So I was very excited to be able to do my first volunteer session with them.

Side note here, but I have to admit I really think this has been my favorite session to edit yet. Several images brought tears to my eyes when I saw them load on my computer and I couldn't tear myself away from them. They just called to me in an odd quirky artist sort of way. I am so honored to be able to share them here, with you, and I hope you will take an extra second to leave a comment and express your thanks and appreciation for all that our service volunteers do for us on a daily basis. A simple thank you is the least you can do.

So many things to talk about! Hang on for a fun post full of updates.

One, you might have noticed the new look I have going on at the portfolio site? ( http://sarahannephoto.com/ ) I updated the splash page to give you a little taste of the fun things I have coming this summer. We're updating our entire image, a little "face lift", just to keep things looking how we feel. ;-) And we've give the little bitty babies a space of their own. Who can resist looking at their scrunchie goodness?

Babies are my anti-drug

Remember this gorgeous couple from a couple months ago? They had their beautiful daughter finally and I was able to come back and spend a day with them and their baby. This sneak peek is a LONG time coming and I apologize about that, but the good news is that I hope to finish the entire set of pictures early! Mom and dad will love that.

Enjoy these amazing pictures of delicious little one. She was so precious and slept the whole time for us and I just was in heaven holding her between shots.

Tech Info

Most of the close ups of baby were with natural window light at about f3.5, 1/200 ISO 1000 or so. Baby was about 8 or 9 days old (Mom/Dad I can't remember!)

Boudoir Information

Just an update, I am hosting another Boudoir Marathon session in May. It will be on the 17th and I have three openings left for this date. The reservation fee is $75.

If you are interested or would like more information please email me and I will be more than happy to talk to you about the session details.

The sessions last about 1.5 hours and we easily fit in 3 or 4 outfits, sometimes more if we move quickly enough. You will receive about 40 proofs from the session in an online gallery for your viewing convience.

I met up with M today for another mini session. The botanical gardens were full of prom and wedding dresses but we managed to find a few secluded locations for her senior pictures.

Can I just say, again, how much fun I have with seniors? They're always up for some fun and creative ideas. Especially when they bring their boyfriend along and things get a little crazy when I suddenly go "Tackle her NOW!"

Last night started out disappointing. The location I originally wanted to try out for this session was just not going to work. The wind last night was so fierce it felt like we were going to be toppled over. Luckily, we decided to try some photos down town Fort Worth again and ended up with amazing results. Last night I was near a little nervous breakdown. I was just feeling completely overwhelmed and out of whack and my allergies were hitting me full force and I wanted to cry because I couldn't think clearly and there was so much I wanted to do and accomplish before calling it a night. Then today I spent a few hours with H and D and their family and it totally made everything better.

From the moment I walked into their house and was greeted warmly by their children I felt at home and knew I couldn't not have an amazing session with them. A few hours (and rude landscaping people) later I left with a huge smile on my face and so excited to see the pictures on my computer screen. I told them it would take me a couple days to have the sneak peek, but I was so excited I couldn't wait. Here's a little taste of the amazing fun we had together today.

Thank you again for inviting me to photograph your family. I can't wait to come back and meet the new addition this summer.

April Boudoir Photography

Surprise! (and this is no April Fool's joke) Due to high demand I am opening a few slots for an April Boudoir session at a fantastic little hotel in the DFW area. Each slot is for 2 hours in front of the camera. Your reservation fee is $100 to reserve your time slot and packages start at $295. The sessions will be held on April 11th and 12th.

This is an amazing price and fantastic location sure to create some stunning photographs. I will only have enough time to take a few sessions so please, please contact me ASAP in order to reserve your spot. I've never been big on jumping on the bandwagon, but usually at some point or another I find myself caving to masses and following along. Twitter is no exception. I'm addicted to the little widget on the side of my blog there. It's like stalking without the effort. And if you ever read my blog, you know that I have a list of people (photographers) I stalk regularly.

Now, if you ever find yourself wondering what I have planned for the day, you will be able to see what I'm up to or working on. It could only get better if I caved to the Justin.TV craze and posted my webcam link so you could see me while I edit photos and drink my glass of wine answering emails and chatting online. Oh the glamor.

Senior Pictures - Calling Class of '09

I am looking to put together a focus group of members of the class of '09. This will be about 5 or 6 seniors who are fairly well integrated amongst their peers and have a good idea of what's "in" and what's "out". We are going to spend some time over breakfast getting to know each other a little, then I will show you some sample products and we will brainstorm together on a few topics. At the end, we will have a mini photoshoot together and try out a new location or two.

You do not have to be "into" photography in order to attend. I'm actually just looking for a couple relaxed easy going seniors who like to talk and wouldn't mind spending a day getting their photo taken.

Sometimes you just see a photograph and it makes you just stop because it's so gorgeous.

Ladies, that right there is one of those photographs. And if it will make ME stop in my tracks and admire it, imagine what your husband would do.

I have had many requests for more information about my hotel boudoir sessions so I thought I would make a public announcement of sorts. ;-)

Boudoir sessions run about 2 hours long for 3 outfit changes. Can't decide? Bring them all and I'll decide which ones I like best. Shopping is fun!

Another fun fact, a family member of mine was asking me about my Boudoir photography and I showed her this picture and she actually asked me if I would be able to take a picture of her like this. I simply LOVE the feeling these pictures give women. Every woman is sexy. Every woman is beautiful. And you deserve to have the proof in your hands so you, too, can believe you are as beautiful as you really are.

Boudoir Hotel Marathon

Well, our Saturday Boudoir marathon went fabulous. The girls were all so excited (not to mention gorgeous!) and it was so easy to share a little champagne and get all dressed up. In fact, I told them I was feeling a little left out not getting my makeup done by the professional makeup artist we had for the day.

In the next week or so I will be posting a couple little previews for everyone once I finish editing the photos and have the final OK. An image from a Boudoir session is never shared on the blog or website without the client's approval first. However, his is just a little taste of the good fun we had yesterday -

Phone Woes

I have a funny story to tell.

Two and a half years ago I bought a cute little red flip cell phone. It had a camera phone and was slim and trim and very cute. I loved that little phone. Then alone came a little baby boy who shared my fascination with my phone and several teething days later I realized it was time to upgrade to a new phone.

I took the phone into the store to have it fixed since it wasn't working properly and thinking about buying a new one. A misleading insurance policy and a lack of a desire to sign another 2 year contract (I'm totally a commitment phobe) left me with a broken phone and on a hunt to find another phone. Currently the cheapest phone Sprint carries for sale without a contract is $180. Ridiculous. I just need a phone to make calls and check voicemails and if I'm really lucky send text messages too.

So I hop online and do the new cool hip thing, I buy a used phone from Ebay. $60 later my phone arrives, only it looks like it was dropped into a blender. Unacceptable. I return the phone, the Ebay seller doesn't balk, I'm out $15 in shipping but chalk it up to a lesson learned and moved on.

My next phone is purchased and arrives. It looks fine, is a pretty pink color (yes I'm a pink-a-holic) and I trek down to the Sprint store only to find out even though it's a Sprint phone it was used on the Qwest network and can't be used on the Sprint network. Okay, great. Contact the seller, ship the phone back, get my money back, out another $15 in shipping.

I search around online a bit more, find another phone from another seller that's more expensive than I wanted but maybe I need to just fork out the money in order to get a working phone. I wait. The phone arrives. I'm giddy. It looks perfect minus a mark or two (it was used) and simply gorgeous. I rush to the Sprint store, wait 45 minutes, chat to the lady behind the desk and get everything ready. And then...

"Hmmmmmm...."

Hmmmm? What 'Hmmmmmm'? Hmmmm is not what I want to hear. I just want my phone turned on so I can talk to people and run my business.

"This phone was reported stolen."

And that's when I nearly lost it. Is a poor frazzled woman not allowed to buy a working phone for under $100?

Home again I've contacted the seller and sent a vert terse email about having a stolen phone in my house and needing to be refunded.

So here I am again, without a phone, about to have a massive photoshoot tomorrow, and just totally feeling like a dork. Anyone have a phone they'd like to lend me for the day tomorrow?

I am still easily reable by my business number 817 - 717 - 6637 as that will go straight to voicemail and I am emailed an alert and can listen and call you back from the house phone. But man life is different when you're lacking a cell phone.

I'm talking I don't miss visiting their blogs and websites each and every week looking for inspiration and ideas for something new to try. These guys are, in my opinion, the best of the best. Some are well known, some are not, but each one has a unique aspect about why I stalk them so. If you have a minute and are looking for some eye candy, check out the list to the left of the "Photogs I Stalk" and peek around a little, maybe tell them I sent you, or not. I wouldn't want them to know it was ME peeking through their windows at night.

Ladies thank you so much for all your interest in the March Boudoir hotel session but we are officially full! The girls who have booked a session will have their makeup done by a professional make-up artist and get a full hour of my attention behind the camera.

March Hotel Boudoir Session

The weekend of March 14th & 15th I will be hosting Boudoir sessions in a Fort Worth hotel room. Sessions will be $75 for 1.5 hours, with the fee good towards prints or a price of a package. Boudoir packages start at $295.

We had an accident.

Every mommy has the moment where, for the first time, she understands how quickly things can go from "Kiss & all better" to "Let's go to visit the ER again".

Today was one of those days.

Thankfully we're all OK, just a sliced finger where no band aid is able to stay put so mommy, being the clever mommy she is, decided to tape a sock over his hand in oder to ensure the band aid is not removed mid-night.

Sarah Anne Photography would like to announce we are looking to expand our services offered to include Boudoir photography for the Fort Worth area.

Boudoir photography sessions will be included complimentary on some wedding packages or available to be purchased individually. Boudoir photography sessions make excellent gifts to give your husband or special someone. They also are a wonderful way to celebrate yourself and your body.

We will be booking a few select sessions this spring so please contact us for more information. The sessions will be done in a few different locations for you to choose from and group rates will apply! Get the girls together for a day you'll never forget and celebrate being a woman and learn to love yourself on the outside just as much as you do on the inside. To give you a small little sneak peek into the love story of Katie and Robert...

Once again I'd like to thank Krista from Amoura photography for all her help during the wedding, some of these sneaks were photos she took but were so amazing I had to share them. It has been so a wonderful experience working with Krista the past few weeks.

The day of the wedding and the sky is bright and blue and full of promises for the future.

The ceilings were amazing! Look at them. Gorgeous.

This shot nearly brought me to my knees I loved it so much. I don't think I have the vocabulary to be able to describe how much I love this picture. The focus and highlights on the dress are marvelous.

The red in her wedding was brilliant. Enough to notice without being overwhelming. Perfect.

There they are... Almost time. Mom was sniffling behind me by this time.

You may now kiss the bride.

The ring. Gorgeous.

I know, a lot of kissy mushy pictures, but I can't help it. They were so in love with each other it would be a shame not to share.

Dancing with her father - Something about this picture is just so timeless to me. The way he holds her hand and is gently guiding her around the dance floor.

She was so proud to be the first to smash the cake. I had to prove it was true.

The DJ had an amazing set up and as soon as I locate the card he gave me with all his information I will share it with you!

See what I mean? The lighting was fantastic! Such a cool addition to the reception.

These lights were just fabulous! I had so much fun playing with my camera and the lights.

Time to toss the bouquet! Too bad the groom decided to launch the garter on the count of "One" and caught me totally by surprise. Remember... you wait until "Three" not "One". ;)

And we end with a little "Soulja Boy" I have a whole set of pictures from these three doing their Soulja Boy dance and they are just priceless. But you'll have to wait to see more of those. ;-)

The Reason is This...

Yesterday I had the most amazing opportunity to photography Robert and Katie's wedding. Their story is simple, perhaps even traditional in some parts, and yet all together extraordinary. They met while in high school, dated for a few years, and decided they could not delay the rest of their lives any longer. But the most delightful part about them was the electricity of passionate love that surrounded them. Their eyes would lock and they would instantly be transported into their own little world. They would dance together on the floor and you could almost see them float off into the clouds. My favorite moment of the night, was during a song when they were dancing together, a beautiful flowing across the dance floor in a softly lit room with everyone watching, and the groom began to sing the words of the song to his bride, and they were like lyrics of a poet drunk on love coming from his mouth in a whisper meant only for his wife.

This is why I love my job. This is why I am so giddy to be invited to photograph a wedding, because being able to have the honor of telling someone's love story is the most amazing thing I have ever done.

This couple will have an official sneak peek later this week, but for tonight I had to leave you with one quick image. They would dance pressed together, nose to nose, moving together in an effortless dance of love and possibilities.

Being Published

I was approached by an author a little while ago asking if they could use a photo of mine in an article of hers. I am pretty open with letting people use photos of myself or my son in print, especially educational articles. I just found out today the article was published and I'm excited to announce that there is now a picture of my son breastfeeding at 3 months published in an article.

He's a star.

I rarely post pictures of my son, mainly because I was worried if I did people would think I had waaaaaaaaaaay too much extra time on my hands in order to be able to take so many pictures of him, but yesterday I finished an amazing engagement session with a couple and when I got home I was still in the the Photographer mode. I played with my son for awhile and managed to get a good number of pictures of him and it reminded me of how much fun it was to photograph children. I have not had a child photography session in a good while and I think the break from tanrum toddlers was good for me. It helped to give me back my patience for waiting for that perfect shot instead of trying to rush them around.

I had the extreme pleasure of photographing Robyn and Nathan's wedding yesterday. From the moment I met Robyn she made me feel like a long lost friend. There was never a moment where I felt uncomfortable or like an outsider. The wedding was beautiful, the bride could only be described as radiant, and I'm so happy for them.

And a very special thanks to Krista from Amoura Photography for all her help during the day.

Some times we all just have those moments where we just loose it. I know my computer and I are on a love/hate relationship most days and there have been a few occasions where I was very tempted to just toss the whole thing out the window.

Sneak Peek - M & Bonus example Slide Show

Here is a sneak peek for M of his senior pictures. We had a great afternoon out at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens for these. I also was able to put together his slide show of his session from start to finish. I love when I can finish a session and watch the show with the music and see my work done in front of me and just appreciate it for five minutes without worrying about anything. But Why Do You Cost So Much?

Here's a quick answer for a question I hear so often.

Why are Professional Photographers so expensive?

In this digital age where everyone has digital cameras, scanners and home "photo printers", when people upload their photos to a local drug store website and pick them up a few hours later, we hear this all the time - How in the world do Professional Photographers charge $55 for an 8x10 when they cost just $1.50 at the drug store?

Here's why.

Simply put, you're not just paying for the actual photograph, you're paying for time and expertise. First, let's look at the actual time involved. If you don't read this entire page, at least read this first part.

For a two hour portrait session:
- one hour of travel to and from the session
- two hours of shooting
- 30 minutes of setup, preparation, talking to the client etc.
- 30 minutes to load the photos onto a computer (2 - 4 Gb of data)
- 30 minutes to back up the files on an external drive
- 3 - 4 hours of Photoshop time including cropping, contrast, color, sharpening, saving a copy for print and a copy for the internet and backing up the edited photographs
- 2 - 3 hours to talk to the client, answer questions, receive their order and payment, order their prints, receive and verify prints, package prints, schedule shipment and drop package off at Fed Ex.
- For local customers, we also print a set of all of their photos, and meet them at our studio to review the photos and place their order. Meeting and travel time averages 2 hours.
You can see how one two hour session easily turns into more than ten hours of work from start to finish. So when you see a Photographer charging a $200 session fee for a two hour photo shoot, you are not paying them $100 / hour.

For an eight hour wedding:
- I won't bore you with the details, but an eight hour wedding typically amounts to at least two to three full 40 hour work weeks worth of time. Again, if they are charging you $4,000 for an eight hour wedding, you are not paying them $500 / hour.

Now for the expertise.

Shooting professional photography is a skill, acquired through years of experience. Even though a quality camera now costs under $2,000 taking professional portraits involves much more than a nice camera.

Most Professional Photographers take years to go from buying their first decent camera to making money with their photography. In addition to learning how to use the camera itself, there is a mountain of other equipment involved, as well as numerous software programs used to edit and print photographs, run a website etc.

And let's not forget that you actually have to have people skills, be able to communicate, make people comfortable in front of the camera - and posing people to make them look their best in a photograph is a skill all by itself.

Think of it this way - the next time you pay $X to get your hair done, a pair of scissors only costs $1.50. But you gladly pay a lot more to hire a Professional.

What about the cheap studios at the mall?

Please don't compare us to the chain store studios. But if you must, consider all of the time and work that we put into our photographs, compared to what they do. Good luck getting a two hour photo shoot at a chain store. Not to mention they won't come to the beach! And of course, look at our work compared to theirs. You get what you pay for.

The truth is, most of the mall and chain store studios lose money. In fact, in 2007 Wal-Mart closed 500 of their portrait studios because of the financial drain they were putting on the company. What the chain stores bet on is that you'll come in for some quick and cheap photos, and while you're there, you'll also spend $200 on other things. They don't have to make money, they are just there to get you in the door.

Conclusion
We hope that those who have taken the time to read this page will have a better understanding of why professional photographs cost so much more than the ones that you get from your local drug store.

Sneak Peek for L

I just LOVE when I have a session that makes me have to update my website because the photos are so fabulous I need to show them off to everyone. Yesterday was that kind of session. I was able to meet up with a friend of mine for the day and we did a marathon of maternity pictures for her. This is her first child and she is about 30 weeks right now (if I remember correctly). Let's see if you can guess if she's having a boy or girl.

She had a litter of puppies at her house and I couldn't resist but to use one of them for a picture.

Makes me wish I had a big back yard so I could take them all home with me.

This picture was one that we took at random and for some reason I really like it.

And this was another happy accident that I love how it turned out. There is something just amazing about a pregnant woman's silhouette.

A Humbling Beginning

A Sneak Peek for K

New changes coming up.

It's 11 PM on a Friday night and I'm sitting here working on catching up on some amazing senior sessions I've done over the last few weeks. Yes I'm THAT behind at the moment. Finals this semester have really kicked me in the rear so I'm thankful I decided to take the whole month of December off in anticipation with this.

Speaking of, have you all heard of Pandora.com? It's my favorite music player when I'm up at night working while the rest of the house is quiet as a mouse.

I must admit I'm dissapointed in myself for not keeping up with things here on the blog. Part of my lack of posting is being unsure how many people are actually here looking at this, so, starting next year, I'm going to be posting a monthly special to keep you all on your toes. It'll be really GOOD too, not just a "free 8x10", no. This special will be something so cool. I just can't tell you what they'll be yet. ;-)

Other changes happening will be some shifting around of my packages and pricing. Like the saying go, the only things promised in life are death and taxes. Since my last (first) year in business has been so amazing and things are only looking up, I'm going to go ahead of get rid of some of my promotional packages and just rearrange things to include popular items. I am excited to show you some new items we'll carry as well. It's going to be so fun.

Another huge change is that I am accepting weddings. I have two booked already and more inquiries coming in. I will offer three more weddings at a special promotional price so if you or someone you know is interested please have them get a hold of me soon.

Speaking of, I have a bridal session tomorrow with Miss K so I should get to bed soon so I will be bright eyed and bushy tailed and on my "A" game tomorrow.

It may seem like we were slacking but really we weren't! Sarah Anne Photography partnered with antoher photographer to bring you Whimsical Loft Designs, a design template shoppe for photographers. It goes live on the 15th so shhhhhh don't tell yet! ;)
